Alumnus of the Year
The distinguished career of architect Christopher Coe, FAIA has been defined by design vision, inspired leadership, and a passion for excellence. He holds architecture degrees from Yale University and Louisiana Tech University and has been a contributing designer in three of the world’s most renowned architecture firms before starting his own practice.
With early training in the New York office of Gwathmey Siegel & Associates, Coe moved to Los Angeles from the New York office of Richard Meier and Partners and was a project designer on the seminal Getty Center. He later established the Los Angeles office of Arquitectonica and served as Managing Director and Director of Design. He founded COE Architecture International in 2007.
COE Architecture International is a Los Angeles-based design firm widely recognized for its unique approach to architecture as city-making. Creating distinctive buildings at all scales; from the city to dwellings, the firm is guided by the belief that architecture, when practiced as a civic art, enriches society.
Christopher Coe’s extensive building experience is bolstered by a firm standing in academia which provides a depth of research into city-making and architectural exploration. He has been a design instructor at the University of Southern California’s School of Architecture and taught and critiqued at schools throughout the country.
A recipient of the American Institute of Architects’ highest honor for young practitioners, The Young Architects Citation for Design Excellence, his work has been recognized with dozens of awards and has been published widely. In 2010 he was inducted as a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
