Undergraduate in Professional Aviation
The Professional Aviation curriculum is organized to allow students to complete the requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in either Professional Aviation or Aviation Management. To earn a degree, the student must satisfy all course requirements mandated by the State of Louisiana and Louisiana Tech University. Professional Aviation students must complete the requirements for the Private, Instrument, Commercial, and Flight Instructor Certificates with a minimum of 120 semester hours. Aviation Management students complete specific introductory flight training requirements and a minimum of 120 semester hours.
Students arriving with a private pilot certificate can graduate in 3 years with between 300 - 1,000 flight hours and are in a position to obtain immediate employment with a flight training center or corporate entity depending on the nation’s economic situation and 14 CFR policy. For those students interested in the accelerated program, talk to an advisor about earning the required flight certificates and ratings (for graduation) within the first 1.5-2 years at Tech. After completing the required FAA certificates and rating, the student will be eligible to be employed as a flight instructor for the department. This position is the highest paid student worker position on campus.
