Social Science Minors
Geography is primarily the study of patterns and processes of human activity. Geography majors at Louisiana Tech may select from a variety of human geography courses, as well as physical geography and Geographic Information Science (GIS). As a part of the liberal arts curriculum, students majoring in Geography can expect to develop excellent reading, writing, and thinking skills. In addition, geography majors also receive training in highly marketable computing and statistical techniques. The dualistic nature of the discipline prepares students for a broad variety of career paths. Virtually every enterprise collects data and most need skilled interpreters of data. Students graduating with a degree in Geography may find themselves working in real estate, banking, advertising and marketing, for government agencies, in educational institutions, in the transportation sector, for forestry companies, and for utility companies, to name just a few.
