Donors give $1 million on Louisiana Tech’s second Giving Day
The Tech Family and Friends gave more than $1 million for Louisiana Tech University’s second annual Giving Day, held April 27.
More than 1,400 gifts contributed to the day’s total, and donors included students, faculty, staff members, alumni, and corporate partners. Nearly $40,000 was directly given to benefit students financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, including significant support for the Good Nutrition Mission Food Pantry on campus. Other funds have also been made available to support continuity of education for students.
“I am overwhelmed at the generosity of all the members of our Tech Family,” said President Dr. Les Guice. “I know that we had a number of donors who are experiencing challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic. The fact that these people are committed to our mission, values, and goals to give, despite the trials they’re facing right now, speaks to the impact of our University.”
While universities throughout the world struggle with challenges related to COVID-19, donors can make a difference for students and institutions, according to Abi Olsen, Student Government Association President for 2019-20.
“I know our students join me in saying, ‘Thank you,’ to our Tech Family,” Olsen said. “Your generosity will help alleviate uncertainty for Louisiana Tech in the future, and we’re so grateful for that.”
Monday’s Giving Day followed the strong example set by the inaugural Giving Day in 2019, where donors contributed $1.28 million following the April 25 tornado that plowed through the campus. Residents of 39 states contributed to this year’s Giving Day.
“The success of Giving Day doesn’t happen without a combined commitment to our beloved institution,” said Brooks Hull, Vice President for University Advancement. “I am grateful for the leadership of so many donors, and we are humbled by the commitment that continues to be strong during uncertain times.”
