Information for parents and alumni

The Louisiana Tech Department of Professional Aviation invites you to our annual Aviation Festival (AVFEST)! The weekend of AVFEST is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the achievements of our alumni, current students and you, the parents that have been so involved with this program. AVFEST is also a time to learn more about Louisiana Tech, the aviation majors offered, and what our students can expect when graduating in the present-day aviation industry. We hope that you will join us the weekend of April 24-25, 2020, and participate in all of the fun activities we have planned.

You will find a schedule of events enclosed:

  • Day 1 The Fish Fry Social, held at Argent Pavilion, Friday at 6pm, is a wonderful time for our students to rub elbows and network with alumni that are current and retired industry professionals. Tickets are $10 per plate. Pre-purchased tickets are required. The deadline to purchase tickets is April 16, 2020 at 5pm. Tickets will NOT be available for purchase after the deadline and will NOT be available for purchase at the door. Tickets are first-come-first-served.
  • Day 2 The annual State of the Industry talk at 9:30 am kicks off AVFEST Saturday. Alumni from both Professional Aviation and Aviation Management curricula will take center stage in an educational session held strictly for students and parents.

Parents that attended this talk in previous years have told us how informative it was, and how they feel much better about their son’s or daughter’s future in aviation.

Immediately following the annual State of the Industry Talk will be the Burger  Burn  Cookout  hosted  at  the  Ruston  Regional Airport from 11:00am -1:00pm. We will be serving burgers and hot  dogs  in  the  hangar  next  to  the  Louisiana Tech Flight Operations building, your generous donations to fund student scholarships, will be appreciated.

The weekend AVFEST events conclude with the AVFEST Awards Banquet that will take place at the Davison Athletics Complex (DAC). This is the main event of the weekend and business attire is strongly encouraged. There will be numerous awards and scholarships presented to students and staff members at the banquet. The cost of the Banquet is $40 per ticket and tickets will be sold online at www.liberalarts.latech.edu/Professional-Aviation. Pre-purchased tickets are required. The deadline for ticket purchases is April 16, 2020 at 5pm. Tickets will not be available for purchase after the deadline and will NOT be available for purchase at the door. Tickets are first-come-first-served.

Discounted hotel rates will be available for this event. To receive preferential event rates, please visit www.liberalarts.latech.edu/Professional-Aviation to view accommodation options.
