Dr. Dolliann Margaret Hurtig, a professor of French at Louisiana Tech, presented a paper on three French films at the Spring Convocation of the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages in New York City. Established in 1954, the NECTFL conference is the oldest multi-language conference in the United States, bringing together 2,500 professors and teachers to address various issues in foreign language teaching such as advocacy, assessment, pedagogy, curriculum development and multiculturalism. Hurtig presented her work on the films ”Monsieur Ibrahim et les fleurs du Coran” (Monsieur Ibrahim and the flowers of the Coran), “Jean de Florette” and “Manon des sources.” Hurtig showed film clips and provided booklets to all attendees that she developed as a pedagogical tool for teaching the films during National French Week or for Francophone Day on university campuses. Hurtig serves as co-chair of the Commission of the Promotion of French in the United States, under the auspices of the American Association of Teachers of French.
