Work from ‘The Elements of Photography’ to be displayed at Tech
Ten artists who were published in “The Elements of Photography: Understanding and Creating Sophisticated Images,” will have their work displayed at Louisiana Tech’s Bellocq and Main galleries. The exhibit will be on display Tuesday, Dec. 7 through Tuesday, Jan. 25. In addition, one of the artists, Angela Faris Belt, will give an artist lecture at 4 p.m. Dec. 7 at the university’s School of Art.Faris Belt is a fine art photographer and full-time instructor at the Art Institute of Colorado. Her work is exhibited globally and is held in several corporate and private collections. She is author of “The Elements of Photography.” The book provides a view of contemporary photographic practices, and the artists featured in the exhibition represent a variety of these practices. As of February 2009, more than three dozen schools have officially adopted the book and more than 4,000 copies have been sold. Other artists who will be featured are: * Angie Buckley, who has exhibited her work at Denver Public Library, Savannah College of Art & Design, and New York University; * Alida Fish, a professor at the University of the Arts and who is represented by Schmidt-Dean Gallery and Alan Klotz Gallery; * Carol Golemboski, the recipient of numerous grants including individual artist fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Virginia Commission for the Arts, and Light Work; * Cynthia Greig, whose work has been featured in numerous publications including “ArtWeek,” “Farenheit,” “Photography Quarterly,” “CIRCA Art,” “Contact Sheet Annual,” “New Art Examiner” and “Art Preview;” * Mark Klett, author of 13 books, whose work is exhibited and collected around the world; * Byron Wolfe, recipient of the Santa Fe Prize for Photography; * Alexandre Orion, a graffiti artist and photographer who grew up in São Paulo, Brazil; * Mark L. Eshbaugh, a photographer, writer and musician; and * Thomas Kellner, a German photographer who has been honored with several prestigious grants and awards for his fine art work.
