Christian awarded best-edited book for Rock Brands; earns six first place nods from LPW

Dr. Elizabeth Barfoot Christian, an assistant professor of journalism, was awarded six top spots in this year’s Louisiana Press Women Communications Contest. Christian, who published her first book in December, won first place for book edited by entrant, for Rock Brands: Selling Sound in a Media Saturated Culture, which was published by Lexington Publishers.  Additionally, the music marketing blog Christian writes monthly for Rowman & Littlefield’s site, Lexington’s parent company, was awarded first place for blog (web content for corporate site).   Blogs included in the competition were: “Don’t Call Me Stefani: The Making of a Digital Age Pop Star;” “Kiss This: The Biggest Rock Brand in History Still Gets Dissed from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame;” and “Bret Michaels: The Remaking of a Rock God.”  Blogs are archived at rowmanblog.typepad.com. Her other first-place awards include: Blogs – web content not for profit (http://masscommchic.blogspot.com/) News release – single release (“Journalism students participate in first-ever prison journalism seminar”) Feature release – single release (“Tech graduates 861 in spring commencement”) Short story – nonfiction (for “Chivalry Confined,” published in The Angolite). Christian will compete along with all other first-place winners at the state level in the national competition to be held later this summer.
