Larson and Shindelman’s “Geolocation: Location Thing for Twitter” is one of the prints that will be on exhibit at the School of Art.

Exhibitions will take place Nov. 1 through Dec. 16 at the School of Art Galleries, 1 Mayfield St. Larson and Shindelman’s work, “Geolocation” will be displayed in the Main Gallery, and Jones’ work, “Peter Jones: Retrospective, Paintings, Photographs and Very Early Work by Peter Jones,” will be displayed in the Bellocq Gallery. Larson and Shindelman’s collaborative work focuses on the cultural understandings of distance as perceived in modern life and network culture. They use publically available geo-tag information in Twitter updates to track the locations of user posts and make photographs to mark the location in the world. While their photographs anchor and memorialize the ephemeral online data, it also probes into the expectations of privacy in social networks. Jones works in oil on panel or canvas, though in the last few years he has renewed his interest for photography finding ways digital photography can support his particular style of working. “I prefer to work from life, as the nuances of light captured by the human eye exceed the capability of the single photographic frame,” he said. “I find this facilitates a more painterly approach, which I prefer to the uninflected brushwork of photorealism.”
