The second annual “Experience Poetry in Vicksburg,” a day of poetry workshops and readings, will feature three poets, including one from Louisiana Tech, Genaro Smith, along with Angela Ball and Sandra Beasley. Lorelei Books, an independent bookstore in Vicksburg, Miss., partnering with the Warren County Public Library and The Mississippi Writers Guild, will present the event from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at the Warren County Library auditorium. Genaro Kỳ Lý Smith was born in Nha Trang, Vietnam in 1968.  In 1972, his family moved to Los Angeles where he earned a B.A. in English from California State University-Northridge in 1993. He later earned an M.A. in literature and an M.F.A. in creative writing from McNeese State University in Lake Charles in 1999.  His works have been published in Crab Orchard Review; Northridge Review; Amerasia Journal, out of UCLA; turnrow, out of the University of Louisiana at Monroe; Scene Magazine; dis-Orient; Christmas Stories from Louisiana published by University Press of Mississippi; Gumbo:  An Anthology of African American Writing from Doubleday/Broadway Books, and Kartika Review. Additionally, he has work forthcoming in the Asian American Literary Review. Ball, a resident of Hattiesburg, is a faculty member at the University of Southern Mississippi. Beasley, of Washington, D.C., was selected for the 2010 University of Mississippi Summer Poet in Residence position. Novelist Howard Bahr, who won this year’s Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Literary Arts, will host the event. Bahr, of Jackson, Miss., teaches at Belhaven University.
