A Louisiana Tech journalism professor recently gave the keynote remarks at the closing banquet of the Dow Jones Faculty Digital Workshop at Western Kentucky University. Dr. Reginald Owens talked to professors from colleges that primarily serve African American students about internships and other journalism training programs sponsored by the Dow Jones News Fund. Owens was also a participant in the week-long intensive workshop where faculty created a website that included such multimedia components as video, audio, photography, data visualization and social media. He has been the board of directors of the News Fund for 18 years. The News Fund is a foundation funded mostly by contributions from Dow Jones and Company, which owns a number of media outlets including The Wall Street Journal. Owens is journalism department head and holds the F. Jay Taylor Endowed Chair of Journalism at Louisiana Tech.
