Internationally known guitarist to perform at Tech
Jay Kacherski, an American guitarist who has performed in the U.S. and Mexico, will be spotlighted Thursday, Oct. 10 at Louisiana Tech. Kacherski, who was a Fulbright Scholar in Mexico in 2008, premiers many Mexican guitar works. A native of New York, he is a contributing editor for Soundboard magazine and is a visiting lecturer at McNeese State University. Dr. Cain Budds, an associate professor of music at Louisiana Tech, said the concert is free and open to the public, though donations will be accepted. “It is very rare that Tech gets guest guitarists,” Budds said. “He will present a wide variety of fingerstyle classical guitar sure to please any taste.” Fingerstyle guitar is when a musician plucks the strings directly with the fingertips, fingernails or picks attached to the fingers. Some of the musical selections Kacherski has chosen to play include “Sonata de la Muerte” by Julio Cesar Oliva and “Prelude, Fugue and Allegro BWV 998” by Bach. The event, hosted by the School of Performing Arts and guitar department, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Howard Auditorium Recital Hall.
