Associate professor has French work published
An associate professor in Louisiana Tech’s School of Literature and Language was selected to have her writing published recently and was reappointed in a national organization.
Dr. Dolliann Margaret Hurtig’s work, “Allons au cinéma: Promoting French Through Film” was published by the American Association of Teachers of French Press, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
As the editor-in-chief, Hurtig and the assistant editor, Joyce Beckwith, have produced a guide for teachers and professors who wish to integrate Francophone film as a course or supplement their present curricula. The monograph features 14 authors, including Hurtig.
The articles include detailed analyses of the films that draw on many genres and places, including France, Canada, West Africa and the Maghreb. Film subjects range from love stories to stories of friendship, immigration, discrimination and isolation. The themes are universal ones that reflect the values of love, family and friendship. Each article follows a precise model created by Hurtig to provide detailed analysis of the film, Web Quests, projects, diverse activities, exercises, suggested essays and relevant Internet sites.
As a result of Hurtig’s success with this film publication, she has been appointed for a second three-year term to serve as co-chair of the National Commission on Cinema for the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF), the largest and oldest association of French professors and teachers in the U.S. Having just completed a three-year term as co-chair of the National Commission of the Promotion of French, Hurtig was asked to serve on the newly-established Commission of the AATF. Hurtig will serve with co-chair Beckwith, an AATF northeast regional representative from Boston.
In addition, Hurtig has just been appointed as chairman of the hospitality committee for the AATF national meeting to be held in July in New Orleans. Nearly 10,000 individuals are members of the AATF. At the AATF annual meeting, Hurtig will present on Daniel Auteuil’s adaptation of Marcel Pagnol’s “La fille du puisatier.”
