Annual Shakespeare festival to be celebrated

Apr 22, 2014 | General News, Liberal Arts

The bard may not be around to blow out his birthday candles, but students and faculty at Louisiana Tech are making sure that the community turns out to celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday April 23. A highlight of the annual event will be a lecture from Renaissance scholar Dr. Andrew Tumminia from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala. Tumminia will address the misconceptions about Shakespeare’s life and work in his presentation, “Will. He. Was: Shakespearean Fact and Fiction.” He will speak at 5:30 p.m. April 23 in George T. Madison Hall, Room 105. Other events from the daylong event include sonnet readings, a noon puppet show and Shakespearean trivia. Students can also enter a sonnet in a new sonnet contest during the day. The festivities will begin at 9 a.m. and with the exception of Tumminia’s presentation, will conclude at 3:30 p.m. For more information contact Dr. Susan Roach, director of the School of Literature and Language, at 318-257-2718.
