Apr 18, 2018 | General News, Liberal Arts

In only one week, the Louisiana Tech University Department of Theatre brings you to the heart of Washington in Shakespeare’s dark and twisted tragedy, King Lear, directed by Paul B. Crook.

In only one week, the powerful King Lear will spiral into madness as his own blood turns against him. Watch from the steps of the Capitol as his three daughters stop at nothing to take control of the kingdom. The battle, full of knife-wielding action, for the crown will take place in Arthur W. Stone Theatre, located in Louisiana Tech’s Howard Center for the Performing Arts, on April 24 – April 28 at 7:30 p.m. and April 29 at 2 p.m. The fate of the kingdom is in your hands as you vote for which sister you believe deserves the crown. As you determine the kingdom’s destiny, you must have more than you show, and speak less than you know.

Stone Theatre lobby. Box office hours are 1:30 pm to 4:45 pm, Monday – Friday. King Lear, one of Shakespeare’s darkest and most savage plays, tells the story of the foolish and Job-like Lear, who divides his kingdom, as he does his affections, according to vanity and whim. His plan goes awry as his daughters scheme and fight for control, throwing the entire kingdom into turmoil. Lear’s failure as a father and a king engulfs himself and his world in tragedy, as he descends further and further into madness. Offering some of Shakespeare’s greatest and strongest characters for both men and women, King Lear showcases the Bard at the height of his dramatic powers.
