History students bring home honors
The end of the school year brings a shower of awards and recognitions to some high-achieving history students at Louisiana Tech University.
Students in the undergraduate and graduate programs earned the following distinctions this spring:
Louisiana Tech history students honored at the annual College of Liberal Arts Academic Excellence luncheon. From left are Dr. Donald P. Kaczvinsky, dean of the college; Dr. V. Elaine Thompson, coordinator of the History Department; Bailey Rasberry, outstanding undergraduate student in history; Michael Stogsdill Bricker, outstanding graduate student in history; Dr. Jeffery R. Hankins, director of graduate studies in history; Dr. Bryan Zygmont, associate dean of the college.
- Cynthia Johns of Alexandria took first place in the graduate division of the annual W. Darrell Overdyke competition sponsored by the North Louisiana Historical Association for the best research paper on a topic in North Louisiana history. She also won first place In the History Department’s annual competition for the best research paper by a graduate student on any historical topic.
- Morgan Humble of Dubach received second place in the departmental graduate competition.
- Matthew Flanders of Zachary won the Kimberly S. Hanger Award, given by the Louisiana Historical Association for the best undergraduate research paper presented at the annual regional meeting of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society.
- Bailey Rasberry of Shreveport was recognized as the department’s outstanding undergraduate student at the annual College of Liberal Arts Academic Excellence awards luncheon.
- Michael Stogsdill Bricker was recognized at the Liberal Arts luncheon as the department’s outstanding graduate student.
- Julia Vanchiere of Shreveport was recognized as the outstanding member of Lambda-Rho Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society.
