E-Certificate in Technical Writing at Louisiana Tech University

The English Department at Louisiana Tech University offers a Certificate in Technical Writing and Communication that you can complete entirely online. This certificate program provides training in advanced oral and written communication skills that employers desire today. Our web-based courses allow you to participate from almost anywhere, whether at home or work. You do not need to come to the Louisiana Tech campus to take courses or even to register.

This certificate requires completion of 15 semester hours (5 courses) of graduate coursework, with a minimum of 12 hours in technical writing courses. Nine hours of this work must be at the 500 level.

Training in technical writing and communication will help you write better, whether the format is a memo, business letter, technical report, or proposal. You will be able to create clear and logically organized training materials. In addition, this level of training in technical writing and communication will help you evaluate all your documents for clarity and usability. This graduate certificate in technical writing and communication can benefit those in many fields, including business, aviation, engineering, social work, language, education, and more. You could use the knowledge gained from this program if you fit into any of the following categories:

  1. Current graduate students in English or another language who are concentrating in literature but would like to document their technical writing skills;
  2. Graduate students in other disciplines who want documentation of the "demonstrated oral and written communication skills" so often requested in job advertisements;
  3. People in the workforce who seek additional skills to increase their chances of advancement; and
  4. People not yet in the workforce who seek to increase their potential salaries and employability and by earning valuable skills such as technical writing skills.
