Literature and Language

  • Writing Contest – Undergraduate students can compete in the annual student writing contest for awards for written works at various course levels.
  • The Quatrain – The College of Liberal Arts produces an annual literary and art journal, The Quatrain, which features works of short creative writing as well as art works. It is published online and in print.
  • Sigma Tau Delta – Outstanding students can also join the English honor society, Sigma Tau Delta, which offers opportunities to submit papers for presentation at the national meeting and helps organize the annual Shakespeare’s Birthday Festival and Banned Books Day.
  • Louisiana Tech Poetry Society – The Louisiana Tech Poetry Society is dedicated to providing an atmosphere in which members may present their original works of literature – be it poetry, short stories, or novel ideas – and discuss them with kindred minds, fellow lovers of creative writing. Membership is open to any registered Tech student, in addition to faculty.
  • Honor Societies – Outstanding students can the join honor societies, Sigma Delta Pi (Spanish honor society) and Phi Delta Pi (French honor society).
  • Study Abroad – The Department offers opportunities for summer Study Abroad in Spanish in Costa Rica and Madrid. French Study Abroad has options to study in Toulouse with Tech Study Abroad, at the Université Sainte-Anne in Nova Scotia and Montreal through CODOFIL and Paris through MICEFA.
  • Spanish Club – The Spanish Club provides an accessible community of Spanish learners or those interested in Spanish culture and language to the Louisiana Tech community. Weekly meetings offer tutoring, conversation time, salsa dancing, and special celebrations such as Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
  • French Club – The newly formed French Club for Louisiana Tech students interested in French and Francophone culture meets weekly for conversation time, French films, and other activities.
