Tech plans events for Constitution Day

Louisiana Tech students can show off their patriotic spirit on Friday by participating in the sixth annual Constitution Day quiz conducted by the department of social sciences. “It’s a great way for students to learn about the U.S. Constitution or show off what they already know,” said Jason Pigg, head of the social sciences department. “We change it up a little every year. We’ll have prizes on hand for the top scorers on the quiz, and everyone will receive a pocket-sized version of the Constitution, although they won’t be able to use it during the quiz.” The quiz will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in George T. Madison Hall, Room 135. Pigg said he’s also come up with a way for those who don’t always do well on tests to join in on the patriotic fun. “We’ve added something new this year — a Constitution Day Essay Contest,” Pigg said. “We’re asking students to write an essay of 1,000 words of less crafting their own amendment to the Constitution. The essay needs to explain why they believe the change, or addition, to the amendment is needed in this day and age. We’ll announce the winner the following week and that person will win a gift card to a local coffee shop.” The essays are due no later than 5 p.m. Friday and can be dropped off to the department of social sciences in GTM Room 137 or they can be emailed to jpigg@latech.edu.
