Percussion Ensemble to continue tradition with fall concert

Oct 29, 2014 | Liberal Arts

Sixteen student musicians. Ten different majors. Eight living composers. One stage. Louisiana Tech’s Percussion Ensemble has been performing on the campus since the 1970s. This fall’s concert will take place November 3 and will involve compositions for a variety of instruments with a heavy emphasis on keyboard percussion equipment, particularly a newly acquired 5.0 marimba. Together with a previou sly owned 5.0 marimba, the Percussion Ensemble will perform Jeffrey Smith’s groove oriented “Opening Remarks,” Ivan Trevino’s pop-inspired “Catching Shadows,” and Emmanuel Séjourné’s “Sosso-bala.” Also included on the program is a quintet influenced by coffee shops and a frenetic work for mixed ensemble suitably titled Identity Crisis. Admission is free and open to the public. The concert begins at 7:30p in Howard Auditorium. For more details, contact Gregory Lyons at glyons@latech.edu.
