Department of Theatre offers “Education Through the Arts”
Louisiana Tech University’s Department of Theatre will dedicate the second show of its upcoming production, “Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp” by Michele L. Vacca, to the youth of our community by engaging them both educationally and actively.
The Department of Theatre’s marketing team has created a booklet of pre and post-show classroom activities that are being distributed to 11 schools, elementary through high school, throughout north central Louisiana. In addition to various fun activities, the material covers key literary and theatrical terms, historical and geographical context of ancient Persia and the concept of literary analysis through study of The Arabian Nights version of Aladdin.
Students from schools in four other parishes along with more than 2,000 students from Lincoln Parish schools are currently scheduled to attend the production which features 50 to 60 cast members, ranging from elementary to high school level. Louisiana Tech’s Stone Theatre plans to continue facilitating education through the arts and building its relationship with the youth of our community.
For those interested in attending “Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp,” there is limited space available for the three performances taking place from January 31 through February 2. The first two shows will start at 7:30 p.m. with the last performance starting at 2:00 p.m. All attendees will have the opportunity to experience, not only the mystical magic of the show, but also to interact with the characters behind the scenes.
Following the final matinee performance of “Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp” February 2, special guests who have purchased the “Adventures with Aladdin” package are invited to have their own adventure with Aladdin and his friends. This includes a “meet and greet” with the cast following the performance, opportunities to take photos on set with your favorite characters and a souvenir craft.
Patrons purchasing season memberships, at a charge of $60 for adults, $45 for youth and seniors, and $20 for students, will have free admission to the “Adventures with Aladdin” event.
The Howard Auditorium Box Office can be reached at (318) 257-3942 and will open for general admission on January 17. Box Office hours are 1:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays.
